My hand held a crumpled paper, my homeroom number. Unfortunately, I had been unable to make it to the office this morning and I had no idea where the room was. I also needed to get my class list and my books. My feet shuffled down the hallway catching a bit of attention. The first bell had already rung and I was late to homeroom, just great. I stopped at the end of the hall and peered around. The door to my right did not have a number and the one to the left was a janitors’ closet. I started to turn when the door to my right opened. A teacher stepped out into the hall and stared at her eyes for a moment.
“So, you must be Miss Naito. You are late,” The teacher remarked after getting her mind set.
“Yeah I’m sorry about that,” my eyes peered away “I got lost,” I stuttered.
“Well that is plenty alright. Come on in and introduce yourself,” She muttered happily and retreated back into the room. I started to shuffle in after her because the comment of introducing myself was something I had hoped to have avoided. I stepped in front of the class with my eyes glued to the floor.
“Class I would like you to meet our new student, Miss Naito,” The teacher gave an encouraging hand forward.
“Uh, Hi my name is Rayne Naito and I just moved here from” My eyes shifted to the class “North Caro-” I caught sight of the boy from the parking lot. He sat in the farthest back and he was staring at her intently. With that she heard a round of gasps; everyone had finally noticed her eyes. The urge to flee flooded through me but I kept still in front of the class. The teacher finally caught the hint.
“Well then, Rayne why don’t you take a seat in the back? There seems to be a spot open next to Cotey.
And Cotey, would you mind okay showing Rayne around to all of her classes?”
Cotey and I said in union, “Okay,” But the tone I gave was cold and his was a bit gentler.
I moved through the rows of desk to get to the back. From the looks on everybody’s faces they looked afraid for me. I did not understand what their problems were but whatever it was it was not too pleasant. My foot rounded into the seat and my body fell into the seat. I could feel eyes still on me but my face was facing the wooden desk. The teacher droned on with the morning announcements, but my eyes never left the desk. My mind wandered out of the class into one of my common day dreams.
I looked up from the desk but I was no longer in the classroom. Around me stood a vast forest which must be the Amazon jungle, but it did not matter because I was clearly lost. I started to turn but I was hit from behind, my body stumbled forward. I did not have time to react before it came at me again. Oh God, I am going to die and nobody is going to know what happened. Damn why did this have to happen to me? This time it hit me with enough force to knock me straight to the ground. I flipped onto my back and I screamed.
My body jerked into a standing position, my head flipped back and forth. I was back into the classroom with everyone staring at me. I could feel my face flash red with pure embarassment but still I sat back down with my head facing down with a shade of hair covering my face. Eyes were still staring and I could feel them but still I sat there. I was not going to give them the pleasure of my running out of the classroom, I was taught to take it like a man. In a figurative matter, of course. The eyes continued to stare until the teacher finally called the class to attention. After that, the class droned on but not once did I look up. The moment the bell dinged loudly I was out in a flash.
I was almost out of the commotion of the crowd before a hand clasp around my shoulder. My body whirled in reaction, I turned to face Cotey. He smiled slightly but looked offset.
"Hey, Rayne, are you alright? You gave the class quite a scare," His face was filled with contempt but his voice was cold as ice.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just a bit of day dreaming gone bad. I haven't been sleeping well, I don't really like this place," The enviorment around me felt like Cotey's voice but harsher and it held no sign of contempt.
"Well, yeah... This place is quite weird. Nothing is as it seems..." He muttered almost silently. But I picked up every word without a single problem.
"What? What do you mean-"
He changed the subject quickly, "So what class do you have?"
"Oh, uh," I peered down at my class list and located the class.
"AP History,"
"Oh, so you're a brainiac like Elliot. I am not surprised!"
"Huh? What?.. Oh, oh yeah,"
"Yeah, so lets go find Elliot because he'll be able to show you to your classe," Cotey muttered.
He started down the hall torwards a large sum of kids. They all seemed to be crowded around a locker, or maybe it was a kid either way I could not tell. Cotey stood next to the group for a moment before he shoved his way through the middle. For a couple of minutes I just stood in the middle of the hall like an idiot. A couple of kids were staring at me but I completely ignored them. A moment later Cotey reappeared. But this time a boy followed him.
The boy had shaggy brown hair that just fell over his ears. His eyes were a dazzling faded emerald color but were partially covered by a shade of bangs. But it was his smile that really caught my attention, it was a full blast golden smile that might have made me go blind if a light shined off of it. My eyes followed through out him as his did the same. He wore lean faded blue jeans with a random band t-shirt. He was completely handsom, okay he was actually really hot.
Cotey looked back and forth from each other, "Rayne, this is Elliot. Elliot this is Rayne, she's in your AP History class and probably all of the other ones,"
I heard what Cotey said but my voice was caught in my throaght, not because I was shy but because I could not seem to say anything to this beautiful person. He just didn't seem human he was to perfect like I imagined an angel. But something was a little off, I just couldn't tell what.
Cotey cleared his throaght slightly and brought me back from my thoughts. It looked like her had done the same to Elliot to because his cheecks looked a bit inflamed.
"Oh, yeah, sorry. I'm Rayne and it's nice to meet you," I had a great urge to run into this strangers arms. Everything in my brain was telling me that he was safe and good even though I barely even knew him. (finish laterrrr)
